Hackers Target Major U.S. Government IT Provider

Hackers have leaked internal documents stolen from Leidos Holdings Inc (LDOS.N), one of the largest IT services providers to the U.S. government, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, citing a person familiar with the matter.

Investigation Underway

The Virginia-based company, which counts the U.S. Department of Defense as its primary customer, recently became aware of the issue and believes the documents were taken during a previously reported breach of a Diligent Corp. system it used. Leidos is currently investigating the incident.

Connection to Previous Breach

According to a June 2023 filing, the company used the Diligent system to host information gathered in internal investigations. Leidos confirmed that the issue stems from a previous incident affecting a third-party vendor, for which all necessary notifications were made in 2023. “This incident did not affect our network or any sensitive customer data,” the company stated.

Diligent Corp. Responds

A spokesperson for Diligent said the issue seems to be related to a 2022 incident affecting its subsidiary Steele Compliance Solutions. The company notified impacted customers and took corrective action to contain the incident in November 2022.
